IPR001095 is a Acetyl-CoA carboxylase, alpha subunit.
<p>This entry contains the alpha subunit (Acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase carboxyl transferase ACCA [ec:2.1.3.15]) of the acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase complex ([ec:6.4.1.2]). ACCA catalyses the transfer of a carboxyl group carried on a biotinylated biotin carboxyl carrier protein (BCCP) to acetyl-CoA, forming malonyl-CoA, the first step in the synthesis of long-chain fatty acids. The acetyl-CoA carboxylase complex is a heterohexamer of biotin carboxyl carrier protein, biotin carboxylase and two non-identical carboxyl transferase subunits (alpha and beta) in a 2:2 association [[cite:PUB00002735]]. The reaction involves two steps:</p> <p><reaction> Biotin carrier protein + ATP + HCO3-->Carboxybiotin carrier protein + ADP + Pi </reaction></p> <p><reaction> Carboxybiotin carrier protein + Acetyl-CoA ->Malonyl-CoA + Biotin carrier protein </reaction></p>

GO term | Namespace | Name | Definition | Relationships |
---|---|---|---|---|
Molecular function | Acetyl-CoA carboxylase activity | Catalysis of the reaction: ATP + acetyl-CoA + HCO3- = ADP + phosphate + malonyl-CoA. | ||
Biological process | Fatty acid biosynthetic process | The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of a fatty acid, any of the aliphatic monocarboxylic acids that can be liberated by hydrolysis from naturally occurring fats and oils. Fatty acids are predominantly straight-chain acids of 4 to 24 carbon atoms, which may be saturated or unsaturated; branched fatty acids and hydroxy fatty acids also occur, and very long chain acids of over 30 carbons are found in waxes. | ||
Cellular component | Acetyl-CoA carboxylase complex | A protein complex that catalyzes the first step in long-chain fatty acid biosynthesis. For example, in E. coli the complex is heterohexameric and composed of biotin carbonyl carrier protein, biotin carboxylase and the acetate CoA-transferase complex. |
