IPR007857

Description

IPR007857 is a Protein arginine N-methyltransferase PRMT5.

This entry represents a group of arginine N-methyltransferases, including Skb1 from S. pombe [[cite:PUB00073546]], Hsl7 from S. cerevisiae [[cite:PUB00073547]] and their homologues PRMT5 from animals [[cite:PUB00010228], [cite:PUB00020182], [cite:PUB00058186]] and plants [[cite:PUB00073549]]. Skb1 is a mediator of hyperosmotic stress response in Schizosaccharomyces pombe [[cite:PUB00073546]]. Plant PMRT15 is involved in the post-transcriptional regulation of the circadian clock [[cite:PUB00073550]]. Human PRMT5 is a component of multiple protein complexes and contributes to essential cellular processes, such as RNA transport and splicing, cell cycle regulation, tumour growth, and chromatin remodelling, leading to either gene silencing or activation [[cite:PUB00073551]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Protein methylation The addition of a methyl group to a protein amino acid. A methyl group is derived from methane by the removal of a hydrogen atom.
Molecular function Methyltransferase activity Catalysis of the transfer of a methyl group to an acceptor molecule.
Biological process Peptidyl-arginine N-methylation The addition of a methyl group onto a nitrogen atom of an arginine residue in a protein.
