IPR024960

Description

IPR024960 is a Phosphatidyl-N-methylethanolamine/Phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase.

This family includes yeast phosphatidyl-N-methylethanolamine N-methyltransferase CHO1/OPI3 [[cite:PUB00087310]] and vertebrates phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferases [[cite:PUB00009897], [cite:PUB00057255]]. In yeast, this enzyme catalyzes the second two steps of the methylation pathway of phosphatidylcholine (PC) biosynthesis, the SAM-dependent methylation of phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine (PMME) to phosphatidyldimethylethanolamine (PDME) and of PDME to PC. In vertebrates, it catalyzes the three sequential steps of the methylation pathway of phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis, the SAM-dependent methylation of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) to phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine (PMME), PMME to phosphatidyldimethylethanolamine (PDME), and PDME to PC.

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Phosphatidylcholine biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of phosphatidylcholines, any of a class of glycerophospholipids in which the phosphatidyl group is esterified to the hydroxyl group of choline.
Molecular function S-adenosylmethionine-dependent methyltransferase activity Catalysis of the transfer of a methyl group from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to a substrate.
