IPR026019 is a Ribulose-phosphate 3-epimerase.
<p>Ribulose-phosphate 3-epimerase ([ec:5.1.3.1]) (also known as RPE, pentose-5-phosphate 3-epimerase or PPE) is the enzyme that converts D-ribulose 5-phosphate (Ru5P) into D-xylulose 5-phosphate in Calvin's reductive pentose phosphate cycle. In Ralstonia eutropha (Alcaligenes eutrophus) two copies of the gene coding for PPE are known [[cite:PUB00002204]], one is chromosomally encoded [swissprot:P40117], the other one is on a plasmid [swissprot:Q04539]. PPE has been found in a wide range of bacteria, archaebacteria, fungi and plants. All the proteins have from 209 to 241 amino acid residues. The enzyme has a TIM barrel structure.</p>

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .
GO term | Namespace | Name | Definition | Relationships |

Molecular function | Ribulose-phosphate 3-epimerase activity | Catalysis of the reaction: D-ribulose 5-phosphate = D-xylulose 5-phosphate. | ||
Biological process | Pentose-phosphate shunt | The glucose-6-phosphate catabolic process in which, coupled to NADPH synthesis, glucose-6-P is oxidized with the formation of carbon dioxide (CO2) and ribulose 5-phosphate; ribulose 5-P then enters a series of reactions interconverting sugar phosphates. The pentose phosphate pathway is a major source of reducing equivalents for biosynthesis reactions and is also important for the conversion of hexoses to pentoses. |
