IPR003692

Description

IPR003692 is a Hydantoinase B/oxoprolinase.

An appreciable fraction of the sulphur present in mammals occurs in the form of glutathione. The synthesis of glutathione and its utilization take place by the reactions of the gamma-glutamyl cycle, which include those catalysed by gamma-glutamylcysteine and glutathione synthetases, gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, cysteinylglycinase, gamma-glutamyl cyclotransferease, and 5-oxoprolinase [[PMID:45011]]. This domain is found in N-methylhydantoinase B, which converts hydantoin to N-carbamyl-amino acids, and in 5-oxoprolinase [ec:3.5.2.9] which catalyses the formation of L-glutamate from 5-oxo-L-proline. These enzymes are part of the oxoprolinase family.

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Catalytic activity Catalysis of a biochemical reaction at physiological temperatures. In biologically catalyzed reactions, the reactants are known as substrates, and the catalysts are naturally occurring macromolecular substances known as enzymes. Enzymes possess specific binding sites for substrates, and are usually composed wholly or largely of protein, but RNA that has catalytic activity (ribozyme) is often also regarded as enzymatic.
