IPR004498

Description

IPR004498 is a Ribosomal protein L11 methyltransferase.

Ribosomal protein L11 methyltransferase (PrmA) ([ec:2.1.1]) is required for the methylation of ribosomal protein L11. It forms a bifunctional operon in Escherichia coli with panF (pantothenate transport). In E. coli, it trimethylates the N-terminal alpha-amino group and the ε-amino groups of Lys3 and Lys39 [[cite:PUB00051026]]. In Arabidopsis is targeted to both mitochondria and chloroplasts. Structures comparison with the E. coli enzyme revealed that they share similar product specificity but display a difference in substrate site specificity [[cite:PUB00095676]].

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Protein methylation The addition of a methyl group to a protein amino acid. A methyl group is derived from methane by the removal of a hydrogen atom.
Molecular function Protein methyltransferase activity Catalysis of the transfer of a methyl group (CH3-) to a protein.
