IPR010233

Description

IPR010233 is a Ubiquinone biosynthesis O-methyltransferase.

This entry represents an O-methyltransferase, which is believed to act at two points in the ubiquinone biosynthetic pathway in bacteria (UbiG) and mitochondria (COQ3) [[cite:PUB00013848], [cite:PUB00013843]]. A separate methylase (MenG/UbiE) catalyses the single C-methylation step. The most commonly used names for genes in this family do not indicate whether this gene is an O-methyl, or C-methyl transferase.

This description is obtained from EB-eye REST.

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Ubiquinone biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of ubiquinone, a lipid-soluble electron-transporting coenzyme.
Molecular function 2-polyprenyl-6-methoxy-1,4-benzoquinone methyltransferase activity Catalysis of the reaction: 2-polyprenyl-6-methoxy-1,4-benzoquinone + S-adenosyl-L-methionine = 2-polyprenyl-3-methyl-6-methoxy-1,4-benzoquinone + S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine.
