IPR012916

Description

IPR012916 is a RED-like, N-terminal.

This domain contains sequences that are similar to the N-terminal region of Red protein ([swissprot:Q13123]). This and related proteins contain a RED repeat which consists of a number of RE and RD sequence elements [[cite:PUB00016574]]. The region in question has several conserved NLS sequences and a putative trimeric coiled-coil region [[cite:PUB00016574]], suggesting that these proteins are expressed in the nucleus [[cite:PUB00016574]]. Protein RED (also known as IK) is found in the nucleus and is a component of the spliceosome [[cite:PUB00090272]]. It is also associated with the spindle pole where it co-localizes with and interacts with the spindle assembly checkpoint protein MAD1 during metaphase and anaphase. Depletion of RED shortens the mitotic cycle and MAD1 is incorrectly localized [[cite:PUB00090273]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Nucleus A membrane-bounded organelle of eukaryotic cells in which chromosomes are housed and replicated. In most cells, the nucleus contains all of the cell's chromosomes except the organellar chromosomes, and is the site of RNA synthesis and processing. In some species, or in specialized cell types, RNA metabolism or DNA replication may be absent.
