IPR017395

Description

IPR017395 is a Chlorophyllase-like.

This entry includes Chlorophyllases (Chlase) from plants and uncharacterised bacterial proteins which share the same PET hydrolase fold.

Chlase ([ec:3.1.1.14]) is an enzyme involved in chlorophyll degradation and catalyses the hydrolysis of the ester bond to yield chlorophyllide and phytol [[cite:PUB00013051], [cite:PUB00053427], [cite:PUB00044596]]. It is found in higher plants, green algae and diatoms [[cite:PUB00013051]]. It is important for de-greening processes such as fruit ripening, leaf senescence and flowering, as well as in the turnover and homeostasis of chlorophyll [[cite:PUB00044591], [cite:PUB00044592], [cite:PUB00044593]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Chlorophyll catabolic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the breakdown of chlorophyll, any compound of magnesium complexed in a porphyrin (tetrapyrrole) ring and which functions as a photosynthetic pigment, into less complex products.
Molecular function Chlorophyllase activity Catalysis of the reaction: chlorophyll + H2O = phytol + chlorophyllide.
