IPR033895

Description

IPR033895 is a UDP-GlcNAc-dolichyl-phosphate GlcNAc phosphotransferase.

UDP-GlcNAc:dolichol-P GlcNAc-1-P transferase (GPT) catalyzes the transfer of GlcNAc-1-P from UDP-GlcNAc to dolichol-P to form GlcNAc-P-P-dolichol [[cite:PUB00081590]]. The reaction is the first step in the assembly of dolichol-linked oligosaccharide intermediates and is essential for eukaryotic N-glycosylation [[cite:PUB00001987]]. GPT activity has been identified in all eukaryotic cells examined to date. A series of six conserved motifs designated A through F, ranging in length from 5 to 13 amino acid residues, has been identified in this family. They have been determined to be important for stable expression, substrate binding, or catalytic activities [[cite:PUB00081591]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function UDP-N-acetylglucosamine-dolichyl-phosphate N-acetylglucosaminephosphotransferase activity Catalysis of the reaction: UDP-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine + dolichyl phosphate = UMP + N-acetyl-D-glucosaminyl-diphosphodolichol.
Biological process Protein N-linked glycosylation A protein glycosylation process in which a carbohydrate or carbohydrate derivative unit is added to a protein via the N4 atom of peptidyl-asparagine, the omega-N of arginine, or the N1' atom peptidyl-tryptophan.
Biological process Dolichol-linked oligosaccharide biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of dolichol-linked oligosaccharide, usually by a stepwise addition of glycosyl chains to endoplasmic reticulum membrane-bound dolichol-P.
