IPR034171 is a Peroxisomal acyl-coenzyme A oxidase.

Peroxisomal acyl-CoA oxidases (ACO) catalyze the first set in the peroxisomal fatty acid beta-oxidation, the alpha, beta dehydrogenation of the corresponding trans-enoyl-CoA by FAD, which becomes reduced. In a second oxidative half-reaction, the reduced FAD is reoxidized by molecular oxygen. ACO is generally a homodimer. There are several subtypes of AXO's, based on substrate specificity. Palmitoyl-CoA oxidase (ACOX1) acts on straight-chain fatty acids and prostanoids [[cite:PUB00082872], [cite:PUB00082862]]; whereas, the closely related Trihydroxycoprostanoly-CoA oxidase (ACOX2) has the greatest activity for 2-methyl branched side chains of bile precursors [[cite:PUB00082871]]. Pristanoyl-CoA oxidase (ACOX3), acts on 2-methyl branched fatty acids [[cite:PUB00082868], [cite:PUB00082870]].
