IPR039340

Description

IPR039340 is a Transcription factor Tfc4/TFIIIC-102/Sfc4.

TFIIIC-102, also known as general transcription factor 3C polypeptide 3 (GTF3C3), is required for RNA polymerase III-mediated transcription and is a component of the DNA-binding TFIIIC2 subcomplex that directly binds tRNA and virus-associated RNA promoters [[cite:PUB00089467]]. GTF3C3 contains several tetratricopeptide repeats.

In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, this protein is known as transcription factor tau 131kDa subunit (Tfc4). It is the TFIIIB-assembling subunit of RNA polymerase III transcription initiation factor complex (TFIIIC) [[cite:PUB00089468]]. In Schizosaccharomyces pombe, this subunit is known as Sfc4 [[cite:PUB00089469]].

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function RNA polymerase III transcription regulator recruiting activity Initiating the assembly of the RNA polymerase III pre-initiation complex by binding to a control sequence in the intragenic region. This allows to recruit TFIIIB to the DNA at a site centered approximately 26 base pairs upstream of the start site of transcription. For tRNA genes, TFIIIC first associates with DNA, and then recruits TFIIIB. For 5S rRNA genes, TFIIIA binds to DNA first, followed by TFIIIC, which then recruits TFIIIB.
Biological process Transcription by RNA polymerase III The synthesis of RNA from a DNA template by RNA polymerase III, originating at an RNAP III promoter.
