IPR039731

Description

IPR039731 is a CAAX prenyl protease 2, eukaryotes.

Rce1 is an integral membrane, metal-dependent endoprotease localized to the endoplasmic reticulum that mediates the cleavage of the carboxyl-terminal three amino acids from CaaX proteins, such as Ras family of small GTPases, the gamma-subunit of heterotrimeric GTPases, nuclear lamins, and protein kinases and phosphatase [[cite:PUB00090026]]. It is classified as type II CAAX prenyl protease [[cite:PUB00090024], [cite:PUB00090025]] and is included in peptidase family M79. Its structure has been solved [[cite:PUB00090027]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Metalloendopeptidase activity Catalysis of the hydrolysis of internal, alpha-peptide bonds in a polypeptide chain by a mechanism in which water acts as a nucleophile, one or two metal ions hold the water molecule in place, and charged amino acid side chains are ligands for the metal ions.
Cellular component Integral component of endoplasmic reticulum membrane The component of the endoplasmic reticulum membrane consisting of the gene products and protein complexes having at least some part of their peptide sequence embedded in the hydrophobic region of the membrane.
Biological process CAAX-box protein processing The second process in a series of specific posttranslational modifications to the CAAX box region of CAAX box proteins, in which the last three amino acids of the protein (AAX) are removed by proteolysis.
