IPR039901 is a 3-deoxy-D-manno-octulosonic acid transferase.

The proteins in this family are found mainly in bacteria and plants. In bacteria, 3-deoxy-D-manno-octulosonic acid (Kdo) transferase is involved in lipopolysaccharide synthesis; it catalyses the transfer of two Kdo residues from CMP-Kdo to lipid IV(A), the precursor of lipid A [[cite:PUB00090285], [cite:PUB00088217]]. In plants it is though to be involved in the synthesis of a mitochondrial lipid A-like molecule [[cite:PUB00090284]].

Molecular function | Transferase activity | Catalysis of the transfer of a group, e.g. a methyl group, glycosyl group, acyl group, phosphorus-containing, or other groups, from one compound (generally regarded as the donor) to another compound (generally regarded as the acceptor). Transferase is the systematic name for any enzyme of EC class 2. |
