IPR040177

Description

IPR040177 is a Proton-coupled zinc antiporter SLC30A9.

This entry includes proton-coupled zinc ion antiporters which mediate the export of zinc from the mitochondria, being involved in intracellular zinc homeostasis, zinc mobilization as well as mitochondrial morphology and health [[cite:PUB00090661], [cite:PUB00103573], [cite:PUB00103574], [cite:PUB00103575]]. A mutation in the human gene leads to an autosomal recessive cerebro-renal syndrome associated with early-onset neurological deterioration, severe intellectual disability, profound ataxia, camptocormia and oculomotor apraxia [[cite:PUB00090661]]. An uncharacterized homologue from Arabidopsis thaliana is known as metal tolerance protein C4 (MTPC4).
