IPR001193 is a Membrane-bound transcription factor site-2 protease.

This entry represents the membrane-bound transcription factor site-2 protease (MBTPS2, also known as S2P) [[cite:PUB00067929]].

MBTPS2 is a membrane-embedded zinc metalloprotease that activates signaling proteins involved in sterol control of transcription and ER stress response [[cite:PUB00067929]]. It cleaves several transcription factors that are type-2 transmembrane proteins within membrane-spanning domains. Its known substrates include sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP) -1, SREBP-2 and forms of the transcriptional activator ATF6 [[cite:PUB00003639], [cite:PUB00067931]].

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .
GO term | Namespace | Name | Definition | Relationships |
---|---|---|---|---|
Molecular function | Metalloendopeptidase activity | Catalysis of the hydrolysis of internal, alpha-peptide bonds in a polypeptide chain by a mechanism in which water acts as a nucleophile, one or two metal ions hold the water molecule in place, and charged amino acid side chains are ligands for the metal ions. | ||
Biological process | Proteolysis | The hydrolysis of proteins into smaller polypeptides and/or amino acids by cleavage of their peptide bonds. | ||
Cellular component | Membrane | A lipid bilayer along with all the proteins and protein complexes embedded in it an attached to it. |
