IPR004390 is a Signal-recognition particle receptor FtsY.

FtsY is involved in targeting and insertion of nascent membrane proteins into the cytoplasmic membrane. It acts as a receptor for the complex formed by the signal recognition particle (SRP) and the ribosome-nascent chain (RNC). In E. coli, interaction with SRP-RNC leads to the transfer of the RNC complex to the Sec translocase for insertion into the membrane, the hydrolysis of GTP by both Ffh and FtsY, and the dissociation of the SRP-FtsY complex into the individual components [[cite:PUB00017615], [cite:PUB00060300], [cite:PUB00060301]].

Biological process | SRP-dependent cotranslational protein targeting to membrane | The targeting of proteins to a membrane that occurs during translation and is dependent upon two key components, the signal-recognition particle (SRP) and the SRP receptor. SRP is a cytosolic particle that transiently binds to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) signal sequence in a nascent protein, to the large ribosomal unit, and to the SRP receptor in the ER membrane. |
