IPR004390

Description

IPR004390 is a Signal-recognition particle receptor FtsY.

FtsY is involved in targeting and insertion of nascent membrane proteins into the cytoplasmic membrane. It acts as a receptor for the complex formed by the signal recognition particle (SRP) and the ribosome-nascent chain (RNC). In E. coli, interaction with SRP-RNC leads to the transfer of the RNC complex to the Sec translocase for insertion into the membrane, the hydrolysis of GTP by both Ffh and FtsY, and the dissociation of the SRP-FtsY complex into the individual components [[cite:PUB00017615], [cite:PUB00060300], [cite:PUB00060301]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process SRP-dependent cotranslational protein targeting to membrane The targeting of proteins to a membrane that occurs during translation and is dependent upon two key components, the signal-recognition particle (SRP) and the SRP receptor. SRP is a cytosolic particle that transiently binds to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) signal sequence in a nascent protein, to the large ribosomal unit, and to the SRP receptor in the ER membrane.
