IPR006102

Description

IPR006102 is a Glycoside hydrolase, family 2, immunoglobulin-like beta-sandwich.

O-Glycosyl hydrolases ([ec:3.2.1.]) are a widespread group of enzymes that hydrolyse the glycosidic bond between two or more carbohydrates, or between a carbohydrate and a non-carbohydrate moiety. A classification system for glycosyl hydrolases, based on sequence similarity, has led to the definition of 85 different families [[cite:PUB00004870], [cite:PUB00005266]]. This classification is available on the CAZy (CArbohydrate-Active EnZymes) website.

Glycoside hydrolase family 2 [cazy:GH2] comprises enzymes with several known activities: beta-galactosidase ([ec:3.2.1.23]); beta-mannosidase ([ec:3.2.1.25]); beta-glucuronidase ([ec:3.2.1.31]).

These enzymes contain a conserved glutamic acid residue which has been shown [[cite:PUB00002709]], in Escherichia coli lacZ ([swissprot:P00722]), to be the general acid/base catalyst in the active site of the enzyme.

This entry describes the immunoglobulin-like β-sandwich domain [[cite:PUB00004183]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Hydrolase activity, hydrolyzing O-glycosyl compounds Catalysis of the hydrolysis of any O-glycosyl bond.
Biological process Carbohydrate metabolic process The chemical reactions and pathways involving carbohydrates, any of a group of organic compounds based of the general formula Cx(H2O)y. Includes the formation of carbohydrate derivatives by the addition of a carbohydrate residue to another molecule.
