IPR006324 is a Glutathione reductase.
<p>This entry represents glutathione reductase (GSHR or GRase) from proteobacteria, cyanobacteria and plants. This protein family is one of two closely related subfamilies of GRase, both also closely related to trypanothione reductase. GRase regenerates glutathione disulphide and NADPH from oxidized glutathione and NADP. This enzyme is responsible for maintaining the cellular thiol/disulphide status and for protecting against reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydrogen peroxide [[cite:PUB00099972]]. In plants, this enzyme play important roles in the sulphur assimilation pathway and for an efficient photosynthesis [[cite:PUB00099975], [cite:PUB00099974]]. In Sinorhizobium meliloti, this enzyme is required for redox homeostasis and oxidative stress protection and contributes to nitrogen fixation symbiosis [[cite:PUB00099971]].</p>

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .
GO term | Namespace | Name | Definition | Relationships |
---|---|---|---|---|
Molecular function | Glutathione-disulfide reductase activity | Catalysis of the reaction: 2 glutathione + NADP+ = glutathione disulfide + NADPH + H+. | ||
Biological process | Glutathione metabolic process | The chemical reactions and pathways involving glutathione, the tripeptide glutamylcysteinylglycine, which acts as a coenzyme for some enzymes and as an antioxidant in the protection of sulfhydryl groups in enzymes and other proteins; it has a specific role in the reduction of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and oxidized ascorbate, and it participates in the gamma-glutamyl cycle. | ||
Molecular function | Flavin adenine dinucleotide binding | Interacting selectively and non-covalently with FAD, flavin-adenine dinucleotide, the coenzyme or the prosthetic group of various flavoprotein oxidoreductase enzymes, in either the oxidized form, FAD, or the reduced form, FADH2. | ||
Molecular function | NADP binding | Interacting selectively and non-covalently with nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate, a coenzyme involved in many redox and biosynthetic reactions; binding may be to either the oxidized form, NADP+, or the reduced form, NADPH. | ||
Biological process | Oxidation-reduction process | A metabolic process that results in the removal or addition of one or more electrons to or from a substance, with or without the concomitant removal or addition of a proton or protons. |
