IPR011775

Description

IPR011775 is a Magnesium chelatase, ATPase subunit I.

<p>This entry represents one of two ATPase subunits of the trimeric magnesium chelatase responsible for insertion of magnesium ion into protoporphyrin IX. This is an essential step in the biosynthesis of both chlorophyll and bacteriochlorophyll [[cite:PUB00015454]]. This subunit is found in green plants, photosynthetic algae, cyanobacteria and other photosynthetic bacteria. It is also found in certain archaea not known to make chlorins.</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function ATP binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with ATP, adenosine 5'-triphosphate, a universally important coenzyme and enzyme regulator.
Biological process Chlorophyll biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of chlorophyll, any compound of magnesium complexed in a porphyrin (tetrapyrrole) ring and which functions as a photosynthetic pigment, from less complex precursors.
Molecular function Magnesium chelatase activity Catalysis of the reaction: ATP + H(2)O + Mg(2+) + protoporphyrin IX = ADP + 2 H(+) + magnesium protoporphyrin IX + phosphate.
