IPR018236

Description

IPR018236 is a SAICAR synthetase, conserved site.

Phosphoribosylaminoimidazole-succinocarboxamide synthase ([ec:6.3.2.6]) (SAICAR synthetase) catalyses the seventh step in thede novopurine biosynthetic pathway; the ATP-dependent conversion of 5'-phosphoribosyl-5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxylic acid and aspartic acid to SAICAR [[cite:PUB00004940], [cite:PUB00070198]].

In bacteria (purC), fungi (ADE1) and plants (Pur7), SAICAR synthetase is a monofunctional protein; in animals it is the N-terminal domain of a bifunctional enzyme that also catalyse phosphoribosylaminoimidazole carboxylase (AIRC) activity (see [interpro:IPR000031]).

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Phosphoribosylaminoimidazolesuccinocarboxamide synthase activity Catalysis of the reaction: 5-amino-1-(5-phospho-D-ribosyl)imidazole-4-carboxylate + L-aspartate + ATP = (2S)-2-[5-amino-1-(5-phospho-beta-D-ribosyl)imidazole-4-carboxamido]succinate + ADP + 2 H(+) + phosphate.
Biological process Purine nucleotide biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of a purine nucleotide, a compound consisting of nucleoside (a purine base linked to a deoxyribose or ribose sugar) esterified with a phosphate group at either the 3' or 5'-hydroxyl group of the sugar.
