IPR028886 is a Molybdenum cofactor sulfurase.

Molybdenum cofactor sulfurase sulfurates the molybdenum cofactor (MoCo). Sulfation of molybdenum is essential for xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH) and aldehyde oxidase (ADO) enzymes in which molybdenum cofactor is liganded by one oxygen and one sulfur atom in active form [[cite:PUB00043468], [cite:PUB00069597], [cite:PUB00069598], [cite:PUB00069596], [cite:PUB00035522], [cite:PUB00069600]]. This entry also includes its plant homologue, LOS5/ABA3. In plants, the sulfurylated MoCo is a cofactor of ABA-aldehyde oxidase that functions in the last step of ABA biosynthesis [[cite:PUB00069702]].

Biological process | Mo-molybdopterin cofactor biosynthetic process | The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of the Mo-molybdopterin cofactor, essential for the catalytic activity of some enzymes. The cofactor consists of a mononuclear molybdenum (Mo) ion coordinated by one or two molybdopterin ligands. | ||
Molecular function | Mo-molybdopterin cofactor sulfurase activity | Catalysis of the sulfurylation of the desulfo form of molybdenum cofactor (MoCo), a cofactor required for the activity of some enzymes, such as aldehyde oxidase. |
