IPR030661

Description

IPR030661 is a SUMO-activating enzyme subunit Uba2.

The SUMO activating enzyme E1 enzyme facilitates conjugation of ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins through adenylation, thioester transfer within E1, and thioester transfer from E1 to E2 conjugating proteins [[cite:PUB00038452]]. This entry represents a subunit of the E1 enzyme, including Uba2 from yeasts [[cite:PUB00002915]] and its homologue, SAE2 from animals [[cite:PUB00073560]]. E1 enzymes mediates ATP-dependent activation of SUMO proteins followed by formation of a thioester bond between a SUMO protein and a conserved active site cysteine residue on UBA2/SAE2 [[cite:PUB00058677], [cite:PUB00048807]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Protein sumoylation The process in which a SUMO protein (small ubiquitin-related modifier) is conjugated to a target protein via an isopeptide bond between the carboxyl terminus of SUMO with an epsilon-amino group of a lysine residue of the target protein.
Molecular function SUMO activating enzyme activity Catalysis of the activation of the proteolytically processed small ubiquitin-related modifier SUMO, through the formation of an ATP-dependent high-energy thiolester bond.
