IPR033599

Description

IPR033599 is a RNA polymerase I transcription initiation factor TAF1B/Rrn7.

Rrn7 is a subunit of the yeast Pol I core factor. It associates strongly with both Rrn6 and Rrn11 to form a complex which itself binds the TATA-binding protein, and is required for transcription by the core domain of the RNA Pol I promoter [[cite:PUB00044475], [cite:PUB00053550], [cite:PUB00099775]].

Rrn7 human orthologue, TATA box-binding protein-associated factor RNA polymerase I subunit B (TAF1B), is also a component of RNA polymerase I core factor complex. It acts as a GTF2B/TFIIB-like factor and plays a key role in multiple steps during transcription initiation [[cite:PUB00079239]]. Both Rrn7 and TAF1B are TFIIB-like factors. Although distantly related, they share many activities associated with TFIIB-like factors [[cite:PUB00079238]].

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function RNA polymerase I CORE element sequence-specific DNA binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with the regulatory region composed of the transcription start site and binding sites for transcription factors of the RNA polymerase I transcription machinery. This site is often referred to as the CORE element. In mammalian cells, the CORE element functions in conjunction with the Upstream Control Element (UCE), while in fungi, protozoa, and plants, the CORE element functions without a UCE.
Biological process RNA polymerase I preinitiation complex assembly The aggregation, arrangement and bonding together of proteins on promoter DNA to form the transcriptional preinitiation complex (PIC), the formation of which is a prerequisite for transcription from an RNA polymerase I promoter.
Biological process Transcription by RNA polymerase I The synthesis of RNA from a DNA template by RNA polymerase I (RNAP I), originating at an RNAP I promoter.
Cellular component RNA polymerase I core factor complex A RNA polymerase I-specific transcription factor complex that is required for the transcription of rDNA by RNA polymerase I. In yeast the complex consists of Rrn6p, Rrn7p, and Rrn11p.
