IPR039682

Description

IPR039682 is a Exocyst complex component Sec8/EXOC4.

This entry includes Sec8 from fungi and EXOC4 from animals. Sec8 is a component of the exocyst complex essential for targeting exocytic vesicles to specific docking sites on the plasma membrane [[cite:PUB00007377]]. In fission yeasts, the exocyst complex is also required for polarized cell growth and division septum assembly [[cite:PUB00089966]]. EXOC4 has been shown to regulate N-cadherin expression by controlling Smad3 and Smad4 expression through CREB binding protein, thereby mediating the epithelial-mesenchymal transition and early embryonic development [[cite:PUB00089965]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Exocyst A protein complex peripherally associated with the plasma membrane that determines where vesicles dock and fuse. At least eight complex components are conserved between yeast and mammals.
Biological process Vesicle tethering involved in exocytosis The initial, indirect interaction between a secretory vesicle membrane and a site of exocytosis in the plasma membrane. This interaction is mediated by tethering factors (or complexes), which interact with both membranes. Interaction can occur via direct binding to membrane phospholipids or membrane proteins, or via binding to vesicle coat proteins. This process is distinct from and prior to docking and fusion.
