IPR001674

Description

IPR001674 is a GMP synthase, C-terminal.

<p>This entry represents the C-terminal domain of bacterial GMP synthase [glutamine-hydrolyzing] sequences and similar proteins found in all cellular organisms.</p> <p>The amidotransferase family of enzymes utilises the ammonia derived from the hydrolysis of glutamine for a subsequent chemical reaction catalyzed by the same enzyme. The ammonia intermediate does not dissociate into solution during the chemical transformations [[cite:PUB00006448]]. GMP synthetase is a glutamine amidotransferase from the<i>de novo</i>purine biosynthetic pathway. The C-terminal domain is specific to the GMP synthases [ec:6.3.5.2]. In prokaryotes this domain mediates dimerisation. Eukaryotic GMP synthases are monomers. This domain in eukaryotes includes several large insertions that may form globular domains [[cite:PUB00003933]].</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function GMP synthase (glutamine-hydrolyzing) activity Catalysis of the reaction: ATP + xanthosine 5'-phosphate + L-glutamine + H2O = AMP + diphosphate + GMP + L-glutamate.
Molecular function ATP binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with ATP, adenosine 5'-triphosphate, a universally important coenzyme and enzyme regulator.
Biological process Purine nucleotide biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of a purine nucleotide, a compound consisting of nucleoside (a purine base linked to a deoxyribose or ribose sugar) esterified with a phosphate group at either the 3' or 5'-hydroxyl group of the sugar.
Biological process GMP biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of GMP, guanosine monophosphate.
