IPR005688

Description

IPR005688 is a Chloroplast protein import component Toc34.

Two integral outer envelope GTPases, Toc34 and Toc86, are proposed to regulate the recognition and translocation of nuclear-encoded preproteins during the early stages of protein import into chloroplasts. The cytosolic region of Toc34 reveals 34% α-helical and 26% β-strand structure and is stabilised by intramolecular electrostatic interaction. Toc34 binds both chloroplast preproteins and isolated transit peptides in a guanosine triphosphate- (GTP-) dependent mechanism [[cite:PUB00007880]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Intracellular protein transport The directed movement of proteins in a cell, including the movement of proteins between specific compartments or structures within a cell, such as organelles of a eukaryotic cell.
Cellular component Chloroplast outer membrane The outer, i.e. cytoplasm-facing, lipid bilayer of the chloroplast envelope.
Molecular function P-P-bond-hydrolysis-driven protein transmembrane transporter activity Primary active carrier-mediated transport of a protein across a membrane, driven by the hydrolysis of the diphosphate bond of inorganic pyrophosphate, ATP, or another nucleoside triphosphate. The transport protein may or may not be transiently phosphorylated, but the substrate is not phosphorylated.
