IPR022649

Description

IPR022649 is a Proliferating cell nuclear antigen, PCNA, C-terminal.

<p>Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), or cyclin, is a non-histone acidic nuclear protein [[cite:PUB00001160]] that plays a key role in the control of eukaryotic DNA replication [[cite:PUB00001407]]. It acts as a co-factor for DNA polymerase delta, which is responsible for leading strand DNA replication [[cite:PUB00002545]]. The sequence of PCNA is well conserved between plants and animals, indicating a strong selective pressure for structure conservation, and suggesting that this type of DNA replication mechanism is conserved throughout eukaryotes [[cite:PUB00001388]]. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Baker's yeast), POL30, is associated with polymerase III, the yeast analog of polymerase delta.</p> <p>Homologues of PCNA have also been identified in the archaea (known as DNA polymerase sliding clamp) [[cite:PUB00059205], [cite:PUB00059204]] and in Paramecium bursaria Chlorella virus 1 (PBCV-1) and in nuclear polyhedrosis viruses.</p> <p>The N-terminal and C-terminal domains of PCNA are topologically identical. Three PCNA molecules are tightly associated to form a closed ring encircling duplex DNA [[cite:PUB00015005]].</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function DNA binding Any molecular function by which a gene product interacts selectively and non-covalently with DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
Biological process Regulation of DNA replication Any process that modulates the frequency, rate or extent of DNA replication.
