IPR001171

Description

IPR001171 is a Sterol biosynthesis ERG24/DHCR-like.

This entry represents a group of enzymes involved in the steroid biosynthetic pathway, including 7-dehydrocholesterol reductase and Delta(14)-sterol reductase LBR (lamin B receptor) from animals [[cite:PUB00100221], [cite:PUB00100217], [cite:PUB00100220]], Delta(14)-sterol reductase from fungi and plants [[cite:PUB00100218], [cite:PUB00100219], [cite:PUB00100216]] and Delta(24(24(1)))-sterol reductase from yeast [[cite:PUB00001844]]. These proteins act by reducing double bonds in precursors of ergosterol, are highly hydrophobic and seem to contain seven or eight transmembrane regions.

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Membrane A lipid bilayer along with all the proteins and protein complexes embedded in it an attached to it.
Biological process Sterol biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of sterols, steroids with one or more hydroxyl groups and a hydrocarbon side-chain in the molecule.
Molecular function Oxidoreductase activity, acting on the CH-CH group of donors, NAD or NADP as acceptor Catalysis of an oxidation-reduction (redox) reaction in which a CH-CH group acts as a hydrogen or electron donor and reduces NAD or NADP.
