IPR005794

Description

IPR005794 is a Methionyl-tRNA formyltransferase.

Methionyl-tRNA formyltransferase ([ec:2.1.2.9]) transfers a formyl group onto the amino terminus of the acyl moiety of the methionyl aminoacyl-tRNA. The formyl group appears to play a dual role in the initiator identity of N-formylmethionyl-tRNA by promoting its recognition by IF2 and by impairing its binding to EFTU-GTP.

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Methionyl-tRNA formyltransferase activity Catalysis of the reaction: 10-formyltetrahydrofolate + L-methionyl-tRNA + H2O = tetrahydrofolate + N-formylmethionyl-tRNA.
Biological process Conversion of methionyl-tRNA to N-formyl-methionyl-tRNA The modification process that results in the conversion of methionine charged on a tRNA(fMet) to N-formyl-methionine-tRNA(fMet).
