IPR037022

Description

IPR037022 is a Formyl transferase, C-terminal domain superfamily.

Methionyl-tRNA formyltransferase ([ec:2.1.2.9]) transfers a formyl group onto the amino terminus of the acyl moiety of the methionyl aminoacyl-tRNA. The formyl group appears to play a dual role in the initiator identity of N-formylmethionyl-tRNA by promoting its recognition by IF2 and by impairing its binding to EFTU-GTP. This family also includes formyltetrahydrofolate dehydrogenases, which produce formate from formyl-tetrahydrofolate. These enzymes contain an N-terminal domain in common with other formyl transferase enzymes ([interpro:IPR002376]). The C-terminal domain has an open β-barrel fold [[cite:PUB00014118]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of substances; typically the energy-requiring part of metabolism in which simpler substances are transformed into more complex ones.
Molecular function Hydroxymethyl-, formyl- and related transferase activity Catalysis of the transfer of a hydroxymethyl- or formyl group from one compound (donor) to another (acceptor).
