IPR005854

Description

IPR005854 is a Amidophosphoribosyltransferase.

<p>Purine nucleotides are synthesised both via the de novo pathway and via the salvage pathway and are vital for cell functions and cell proliferation through DNA and RNA syntheses and ATP energy supply. Amidophosphoribosyltransferase ([ec:2.4.2.14]) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the de novo pathway of purine ribonucleotide synthesis and is regulated by feedback inhibition by AMP and GMP [[cite:PUB00033234]]. <reaction>5-phospho-beta-D-ribosylamine + diphosphate + L-glutamate = L-glutamine + 5-phospho-alpha-D-ribose 1-diphosphate + H2O</reaction></p> <p>This family contains sequences which are members of the MEROPS peptidase family C44 (glutamine phosphoribosylpyrophosphate amidotransferase precursor, clan PB(C)) and sequences which are classed as non-peptidase homologues. These are sequences either have been found experimentally to be without peptidase activity, or lack amino acid residues that are believed to be essential for the catalytic activity.</p>

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Amidophosphoribosyltransferase activity Catalysis of the reaction: 5-phospho-beta-D-ribosylamine + L-glutamate + diphosphate = 5-phospho-alpha-D-ribose 1-diphosphate + L-glutamine + H(2)O.
Biological process Purine nucleobase biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of purine nucleobases, one of the two classes of nitrogen-containing ring compounds found in DNA and RNA, which include adenine and guanine.
