IPR011273

Description

IPR011273 is a Malate dehydrogenase, NADP-dependent, plants.

This entry represents the NADP-dependent malate dehydrogenase found in plants, mosses and green algae and localised to the chloroplast. Malate dehydrogenase converts oxaloacetate into malate, a critical step in the C4 cycle which allows circumvention of the effects of photorespiration. Malate is subsequently transported from the chloroplast to the cytoplasm (and then to the bundle sheath cells in C4 plants). The plant and moss enzymes are light regulated via cysteine diisulphide bonds. The enzyme from sorghum has been crystallised [[cite:PUB00013757]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Malate metabolic process The chemical reactions and pathways involving malate, the anion of hydroxybutanedioic acid, a chiral hydroxydicarboxylic acid. The (+) enantiomer is an important intermediate in metabolism as a component of both the TCA cycle and the glyoxylate cycle.
Molecular function Malate dehydrogenase (NADP+) activity Catalysis of the reaction: (S)-malate + NADP+ = oxaloacetate + NADPH + H+.
Biological process Oxidation-reduction process A metabolic process that results in the removal or addition of one or more electrons to or from a substance, with or without the concomitant removal or addition of a proton or protons.
