IPR015895

Description

IPR015895 is a Glutamyl-tRNA reductase, N-terminal.

<p>This entry represents the N-terminal domain of glutamyl-tRNA reductase ([ec:1.2.1.70]), which reduces glutamyl-tRNA to glutamate-1-semialdehyde during the first stage of tetrapyrrole biosynthesis by the C5 pathway [[cite:PUB00009744], [cite:PUB00005387]]. The enzyme requires NADPH as a cofactor. This N-terminal domain is the catalytic domain [[cite:PUB00075508]].</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Glutamyl-tRNA reductase activity Catalysis of the reaction: (S)-4-amino-5-oxopentanoate + NADP(+) + tRNA(Glu) = L-glutamyl-tRNA(Glu) + H(+) + NADPH.
Biological process Tetrapyrrole biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways leading to the formation of tetrapyrroles, natural pigments containing four pyrrole rings joined by one-carbon units linking position 2 of one pyrrole ring to position 5 of the next.
Molecular function NADP binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with nicotinamide-adenine dinucleotide phosphate, a coenzyme involved in many redox and biosynthetic reactions; binding may be to either the oxidized form, NADP+, or the reduced form, NADPH.
Biological process Oxidation-reduction process A metabolic process that results in the removal or addition of one or more electrons to or from a substance, with or without the concomitant removal or addition of a proton or protons.
