IPR016092

Description

IPR016092 is a FeS cluster insertion protein.

<p>Proteins in this entry include HesB, IscA, SufA and ErpA, and appear to be scaffold proteins upon which 2Fe-2S clusters are assembled and subsequently transferred to acceptor proteins.</p> <p>Several multiprotein complexes, referred to as ISC, SUF, and NIF, are known to be necessary for building and inserting Fe-S clusters into cellular targets [[cite:PUB00058196]]. The HesB proteins are associated with the nif gene cluster. The Escherichia coli SufA protein is associated with SufS, a NifS homologue, and SufD which are involved in the FeS cluster assembly of the FhnF protein [[cite:PUB00010345]]. The Azotobacter protein IscA (homologues of which are also found in E. coli) is associated which IscS, another NifS homologue, and IscU, a NifU homologue, as well as other factors consistent with a role in FeS cluster chemistry [[cite:PUB00017349]]. ErpA is required, together with IscA, for the delivery of iron-sulphur clusters to the hydrogen-oxidizing [NiFe]-hydrogenases in Escherichia coli [[cite:PUB00058194], [cite:PUB00058195]].</p>

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Structural molecule activity The action of a molecule that contributes to the structural integrity of a complex or its assembly within or outside a cell.
Molecular function Iron-sulfur cluster binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with an iron-sulfur cluster, a combination of iron and sulfur atoms.
Biological process Protein maturation by iron-sulfur cluster transfer The transfer of an assembled iron-sulfur cluster from a scaffold protein to an acceptor protein that contributes to the attainment of the full functional capacity of a protein.
