IPR017597

Description

IPR017597 is a Pyruvate dehydrogenase (acetyl-transferring) E1 component, alpha subunit, subgroup y.

<p>Members of this protein family are the alpha subunit of the E1 component of pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) [[cite:PUB00044722]]. This entry represents one branch of a larger family that E1-alpha proteins from 2-oxoisovalerate dehydrogenase, acetoin dehydrogenase, another PDH clade, etc. The pyruvate dehydrogenase complex catalyses the overall conversion of pyruvate to acetyl-CoA and carbon dioxide. It contains multiple copies of three enzymatic components: pyruvate dehydrogenase (E1), dihydrolipoamide acetyltransferase (E2) and lipoamide dehydrogenase (E3).</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Pyruvate dehydrogenase (acetyl-transferring) activity Catalysis of the reaction: pyruvate + lipoamide = S-acetyldihydrolipoamide + CO2.
Biological process Acetyl-CoA biosynthetic process from pyruvate The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of acetyl-CoA from pyruvate.
Cellular component Intracellular membrane-bounded organelle Organized structure of distinctive morphology and function, bounded by a single or double lipid bilayer membrane and occurring within the cell. Includes the nucleus, mitochondria, plastids, vacuoles, and vesicles. Excludes the plasma membrane.
