IPR026849

Description

IPR026849 is a Autophagy-related protein 2.

Pexophagy is an autophagic process consisting of the rapid and selective degradation of peroxisomes. Autophagy-related protein 2 (ATG2) is required for glucose-induced micropexophagy and ethanol-induced macropexophagy in yeast [[cite:PUB00061942], [cite:PUB00061943]]. Homologues of this protein have also been described in mammals and plants. Mammalian ATG2 proteins are thought to function both in autophagosome (a structure that enclose the cytoplasmic materials) formation and regulation of lipid droplet morphology and dispersion [[cite:PUB00061944]]. In plants they have a role in programmed cell death, senescence and disease resistance [[cite:PUB00061945]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Autophagy The cellular catabolic process in which cells digest parts of their own cytoplasm; allows for both recycling of macromolecular constituents under conditions of cellular stress and remodeling the intracellular structure for cell differentiation.
