IPR027159

Description

IPR027159 is a Nuclear cap-binding protein subunit 1.

Nuclear cap-binding protein subunit 1 (also known as CBP80 or STO1) forms the CBC complex with the nuclear cap-binding protein subunit 2 ([interpro:IPR027157]). CBC complex binds co-transcriptionally to the 5' cap of pre-mRNAs and is involved in maturation, export and degradation of nuclear mRNAs [[cite:PUB00063079], [cite:PUB00063080], [cite:PUB00063081], [cite:PUB00063082]]. In humans, the CBC complex is also involved in mediating U snRNA and intronless mRNAs export from the nucleus and plays a central role in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) [[cite:PUB00063083]]. During cell proliferation, the CBC complex is involved in microRNAs (miRNAs) biogenesis via its interaction with SRRT/ARS2, thereby being required for miRNA-mediated RNA interference [[cite:PUB00053676]].

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function RNA cap binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with a 7-methylguanosine (m7G) group or derivative located at the 5' end of an RNA molecule.
Cellular component Nuclear cap binding complex A conserved heterodimeric protein complex that binds to the 5' terminal cap structure m7G(5')ppp(5')N of nascent eukaryotic RNA polymerase II transcripts such as pre-mRNA and U snRNA. The consists of proteins known as CBP20 and CBP80, binds to cap structures in the nucleus, and is involved in pre-mRNA splicing, 3'-end formation, and RNA nuclear export.
Biological process MRNA cis splicing, via spliceosome The joining together, after removal of an intervening sequence composed of one or more introns, of two segments of the same RNA molecule via spliceosomal catalysis to produce an mRNA composed only of exon sequences that all came from the same primary transcript.
Biological process MRNA transport The directed movement of mRNA, messenger ribonucleic acid, into, out of or within a cell, or between cells, by means of some agent such as a transporter or pore.
