IPR033961

Description

IPR033961 is a Exocyst complex component Exo84.

The exocyst is a highly conserved complex composed of Sec3, Sec5, Sec6, Sec8, Sec10, Sec15, Exo70, and Exo84, which was originally identified in Saccharomyces cerevisiae [[cite:PUB00007377]]. Mammalian homologues of all eight exocyst proteins have been identified [[cite:PUB00081886]]. The exocyst is required for exocytosis; it mediates tethering of the secretory vesicle before docking and fusion with the plasma membrane [[cite:PUB00081889]].

Exo84 is also involved in pre-mRNA splicing [[cite:PUB00081892]] and is required for epithelial polarity in Drosophila [[cite:PUB00081893], [cite:PUB00081894]].

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Exocyst A protein complex peripherally associated with the plasma membrane that determines where vesicles dock and fuse. At least eight complex components are conserved between yeast and mammals.
Biological process Exocytosis A process of secretion by a cell that results in the release of intracellular molecules (e.g. hormones, matrix proteins) contained within a membrane-bounded vesicle. Exocytosis can occur either by full fusion, when the vesicle collapses into the plasma membrane, or by a kiss-and-run mechanism that involves the formation of a transient contact, a pore, between a granule (for exemple of chromaffin cells) and the plasma membrane. The latter process most of the time leads to only partial secretion of the granule content. Exocytosis begins with steps that prepare vesicles for fusion with the membrane (tethering and docking) and ends when molecules are secreted from the cell.
