IPR002930

Description

IPR002930 is a Glycine cleavage system H-protein.

This is a family of glycine cleavage H-proteins, part of the glycine cleavage system (GCS) found in bacteria, archaea, and the mitochondria of eukaryotes. GCS is a multienzyme complex consisting of 4 different components (P-, H-, T- and L-proteins) which catalyzes the oxidative cleavage of glycine [[cite:PUB00063633]]. The H-protein shuttles the methylamine group of glycine from the P-protein (glycine dehydrogenase) to the T-protein (aminomethyltransferase) via a lipoyl group, attached to a completely conserved lysine residue [[cite:PUB00004842]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Glycine cleavage complex A protein complex that catalyzes the reversible oxidation of glycine. In E. coli, it has four components: dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase, glycine dehydrogenase (decarboxylating), lipoyl-GcvH-protein and aminomethyltransferase, also known as L, P, H, and T.
Biological process Glycine decarboxylation via glycine cleavage system The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the breakdown of glycine by oxidative cleavage to carbon dioxide, ammonia, and a methylene group, mediated by enzymes of the glycine cleavage complex.
