IPR014732

Description

IPR014732 is a Orotidine 5'-phosphate decarboxylase.

<p>Orotidine 5'-phosphate decarboxylase (OMPdecase) ([ec:4.1.1.23]) [[cite:PUB00003724], [cite:PUB00002768]] catalyses the last step in the <i>de novo</i> biosynthesis of pyrimidines, the decarboxylation of OMP into UMP. In higher eukaryotes OMPdecase is part, with orotate phosphoribosyltransferase, of a bifunctional enzyme, while the prokaryotic and fungal OMPdecases are monofunctional proteins.</p> <p>Some parts of the sequence of OMPdecase are well conserved across species. The best conserved region is located in the N-terminal half of OMPdecases and is centred around a lysine residue which is essential for the catalytic function of the enzyme.</p> <p>OMPdecases adopt classical TIM-barrel fold with an active site located at one side of the barrel [[cite:PUB00024159], [cite:PUB00024322]].</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Orotidine-5'-phosphate decarboxylase activity Catalysis of the reaction: H(+) + orotidine 5'-phosphate = CO(2) + UMP.
Biological process 'de novo' UMP biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of UMP, uridine monophosphate, starting with the synthesis of (S)-dihydroorotate from bicarbonate; UMP biosynthesis may either occur via reduction by quinone, NAD(+) or oxygen.
