IPR023026

Description

IPR023026 is a Tryptophan synthase beta chain/beta chain-like.

<p>Tryptophan synthase catalyses the last step in the biosynthesis of tryptophan [[cite:PUB00000116], [cite:PUB00000769]]:</p> <p><reaction>L-serine + 1-(indol-3-yl)glycerol 3-phosphate = L-tryptophan + glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate + H2O</reaction></p> <p>It has two functional domains, each found in bacteria and plants on a separate subunit: alpha chain ([interpro:IPR002028]) is for the aldol cleavage of indoleglycerol phosphate to indole and glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate and beta chain is for the synthesis of tryptophan from indole and serine. In fungi the two domains are fused together on a single multifunctional protein [[cite:PUB00004683]].</p> <p>The beta chain of the enzyme, represented here, requires pyridoxal-phosphate as a cofactor. The pyridoxal-phosphate group is attached to a lysine residue. The region around this lysine residue also contains two histidine residues which are part of the pyridoxal-phosphate binding site.</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Tryptophan biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of tryptophan, the chiral amino acid 2-amino-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)propanoic acid; tryptophan is synthesized from chorismate via anthranilate.
Molecular function Tryptophan synthase activity Catalysis of the reaction: L-serine + (1S,2R)-1-C-(indol-3-yl)glycerol 3-phosphate = L-tryptophan + glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate + H2O.
