IPR001925

Description

IPR001925 is a Porin, eukaryotic type.

<p>Eukaryotic mitochondrial porins are voltage-dependent anion-selective channels (VDAC) that behave as general diffusion pores for small hydrophilic molecules [[cite:PUB00000661], [cite:PUB00005391], [cite:PUB00001485], [cite:PUB00002365]]. The channel adopts an open conformation at low or zero membrane potential and a closed conformation at potentials above 30-40 mV.</p> <p>The proteins are composed of between 12 to 16 β-strands that span the mitochondrial outer membrane. Yeast contains two members of this family (genes POR1 and POR2); vertebrates have at least three members (genes VDAC1, VDAC2 and VDAC3) [[cite:PUB00001974], [cite:PUB00072140]].</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Mitochondrial outer membrane The outer, i.e. cytoplasm-facing, lipid bilayer of the mitochondrial envelope.
Molecular function Voltage-gated anion channel activity Enables the transmembrane transfer of an anion by a voltage-gated channel. An anion is a negatively charged ion. A voltage-gated channel is a channel whose open state is dependent on the voltage across the membrane in which it is embedded.
Biological process Anion transmembrane transport The process in which an anion is transported across a membrane.
