<p>The ATP-grasp domain has an unusual nucleotide-binding fold, also referred to as palmate, and is found in a superfamily of enzymes including D-alanine-D-alanine ligase, glutathione synthetase, biotin carboxylase, and carbamoyl phosphate synthetase, the ribosomal protein S6 modification enzyme (RimK), urea amidolyase, tubulin-tyrosine ligase, and three enzymes of purine biosynthesis. This family does not contain all known ATP-grasp domain members. All the enzymes of this family possess ATP-dependent carboxylate-amine ligase activity, and their catalytic mechanisms are likely to include acylphosphate intermediates.</p>
