IPR004433

Description

IPR004433 is a 2-succinyl-5-enolpyruvyl-6-hydroxy-3-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic-acid synthase.

<p>MenD was thought to act as SHCHC synthase, but has recently been shown to act instead as SEPHCHC synthase. Conversion of SEPHCHC into SHCHC and pyruvate may occur spontaneously but is catalyzed efficiently, at least in some organisms, by MenH. 2-oxoglutarate decarboxylase/SHCHC synthase (menD) is a thiamine pyrophosphate enzyme involved in menaquinone biosynthesis [[cite:PUB00083317]].</p>

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Biological process Menaquinone biosynthetic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the formation of any of the menaquinones. Structurally, menaquinones consist of a methylated naphthoquinone ring structure and side chains composed of a variable number of unsaturated isoprenoid residues. Menaquinones that have vitamin K activity and are known as vitamin K2.
Molecular function Thiamine pyrophosphate binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with thiamine pyrophosphate, the diphosphoric ester of thiamine. Acts as a coenzyme of several (de)carboxylases, transketolases, and alpha-oxoacid dehydrogenases.
Molecular function 2-succinyl-5-enolpyruvyl-6-hydroxy-3-cyclohexene-1-carboxylic-acid synthase activity Catalysis of the reaction: 2-oxoglutarate + H(+) + isochorismate = 5-enolpyruvoyl-6-hydroxy-2-succinyl-cyclohex-3-ene-1-carboxylate + CO(2).
