IPR020624

Description

IPR020624 is a Schiff base-forming aldolase, conserved site.

This entry represents an conserved site found in members of a structural superfamily of Schiff base-forming aldolases that catalyse reactions in different biological pathways. This superfamily includes members such as dihydrodipicolinate synthase (DHDPS), N-acetylneuraminate lyase (NAL) and 2-keto-3-deoxygluconate aldolase (KDG aldolase) [[cite:PUB00072988]]. One of the Escherichia coli proteins containing this site, dapA ([swissprot:P0A6L2]), was first identified as dihydrodipicolinate synthase (DHDPS) [[cite:PUB00000520]]. Later, it has been identified as 4-hydroxy-tetrahydrodipicolinate synthases ([ec:4.3.3.7]) [[cite:PUB00072990]].

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Lyase activity Catalysis of the cleavage of C-C, C-O, C-N and other bonds by other means than by hydrolysis or oxidation, or conversely adding a group to a double bond. They differ from other enzymes in that two substrates are involved in one reaction direction, but only one in the other direction. When acting on the single substrate, a molecule is eliminated and this generates either a new double bond or a new ring.
