IPR024956

Description

IPR024956 is a tRNAHis guanylyltransferase catalytic domain.

<p>The Thg1 protein from Saccharomyces cerevisiae is responsible for adding a GMP residue to the 5' end of tRNA His [[cite:PUB00020433]]. The catalytic domain of Thg1 contains a RRM (ferredoxin) fold palm domain, just like the viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerases, reverse transcriptases, family A and B DNA polymerases, adenylyl cyclases, diguanylate cyclases (GGDEF domain) and the predicted polymerase of the CRISPR system [[cite:PUB00057251]]. Thg1 possesses an active site with three acidic residues that chelate Mg++ cations [[cite:PUB00057251]]. Thg1 likely catalyses polymerisation using a similar mechanism to the 5'-3' polymerases [[cite:PUB00057251], [cite:PUB00057252]].</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function Magnesium ion binding Interacting selectively and non-covalently with magnesium (Mg) ions.
Biological process TRNA modification The covalent alteration of one or more nucleotides within a tRNA molecule to produce a tRNA molecule with a sequence that differs from that coded genetically.
Molecular function TRNA guanylyltransferase activity Catalysis of the posttranscriptional addition of a guanyl residue to the 5' end of a tRNA molecule; observed for His tRNAs.
