IPR012920

Description

IPR012920 is a Ribosomal RNA methyltransferase, SPB1-like, C-terminal.

This domain is found at the C terminus SPB1-like proteins. This domain interacts with the meandering tail of Erb1 and its removal is required to form the pre-mature inter-subunit surface of the Arx1/Nog2 particle [[cite:PUB00100534], [cite:PUB00100535]].

SPB1 is an adoMet-dependent rRNA methyltransferase required for proper assembly of pre-ribosomal particles during the biogenesis of the 60S ribosomal subunit [[cite:PUB00016377]]. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, it specifically methylates the guanosine in position 2922 of the 25S rRNA at the stage of 27S pre-rRNA maturation [[cite:PUB00056208]]. It interacts with the snoRNA-associated proteins Nop1 and Nop58 [[cite:PUB00068804]].

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Nucleus A membrane-bounded organelle of eukaryotic cells in which chromosomes are housed and replicated. In most cells, the nucleus contains all of the cell's chromosomes except the organellar chromosomes, and is the site of RNA synthesis and processing. In some species, or in specialized cell types, RNA metabolism or DNA replication may be absent.
Biological process RRNA processing Any process involved in the conversion of a primary ribosomal RNA (rRNA) transcript into one or more mature rRNA molecules.
Molecular function Methyltransferase activity Catalysis of the transfer of a methyl group to an acceptor molecule.
