IPR019474

Description

IPR019474 is a Ubiquitin conjugation factor E4, core.

This entry represents the most conserved part of the core region of ubiquitin conjugation factor E4 (or Ub elongating factor, or Ufd2P), running from helix α11 to α38. It consists of 31 helices of variable length connected by loops of variable size forming a compact unit; the helical packing pattern of the compact unit consists of five structural repeats that resemble tandem Armadillo (ARM) repeats. This domain is involved in ubiquitination as it binds Cdc48p and escorts ubiquitinated proteins from Cdc48p to the proteasome for degradation. The core is structurally similar to the nuclear transporter protein importin-alpha. The core is associated with the U-box at the C terminus, ([interpro:IPR003613]), which has ligase activity.

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Cellular component Ubiquitin ligase complex A protein complex that includes a ubiquitin-protein ligase and enables ubiquitin protein ligase activity. The complex also contains other proteins that may confer substrate specificity on the complex.
Biological process Ubiquitin-dependent protein catabolic process The chemical reactions and pathways resulting in the breakdown of a protein or peptide by hydrolysis of its peptide bonds, initiated by the covalent attachment of a ubiquitin group, or multiple ubiquitin groups, to the protein.
Biological process Protein ubiquitination The process in which one or more ubiquitin groups are added to a protein.
Molecular function Ubiquitin-ubiquitin ligase activity Isoenergetic transfer of ubiquitin from one protein to an existing ubiquitin chain via the reaction X-ubiquitin + Y-ubiquitin -> Y-ubiquitin-ubiquitin + X, where both the X-ubiquitin and Y-ubiquitin-ubiquitin linkages are thioester bonds between the C-terminal glycine of ubiquitin and a sulfhydryl side group of a cysteine residue.
