IPR001098

Description

IPR001098 is a DNA-directed DNA polymerase, family A, palm domain.

<p>Synonym(s): DNA nucleotidyltransferase (DNA-directed) <p>DNA-directed DNA polymerases([ec:2.7.7.7]) are the key enzymes catalysing the accurate replication of DNA. They require either a small RNA molecule or a protein as a primer for the<i>de novo</i>synthesis of a DNA chain. A number of polymerases belong to this family [[cite:PUB00004955], [cite:PUB00004393], [cite:PUB00004443]].</p> <p>DNA-dependent DNA polymerases can be classified into six main groups based upon phylogenetic relationships with E. coli polymerase I (classA), E. coli polymerase II (class B), E.coli polymerase III (class C), euryarchaeota polymerase II (class D), human polymerase beta (class X), E. coli UmuC/DinB and eukaryotic RAP 30/Xeroderma pigmentosum variant (class Y). The structure of these polymerases resembles in overall morphology a cupped human right hand, with fingers (which bind an incoming nucleotide and interact with the single-stranded template), palm (which harbors the catalytic amino acid residues and also binds an incoming dNTP) and thumb (which binds double-stranded DNA) subdomains [[cite:PUB00092104]].</p>

Associated GO terms

GO predictions are based solely on the InterPro-to-GO mappings published by EMBL-EBI, which are in turn based on the mapping of predicted domains to the InterPro dataset. The InterPro-to-GO mapping was last updated on , while the GO metadata was last updated on .

GO term Namespace Name Definition Relationships
Molecular function DNA binding Any molecular function by which a gene product interacts selectively and non-covalently with DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
Molecular function DNA-directed DNA polymerase activity Catalysis of the reaction: deoxynucleoside triphosphate + DNA(n) = diphosphate + DNA(n+1); the synthesis of DNA from deoxyribonucleotide triphosphates in the presence of a DNA template and a 3'hydroxyl group.
Biological process DNA replication The cellular metabolic process in which a cell duplicates one or more molecules of DNA. DNA replication begins when specific sequences, known as origins of replication, are recognized and bound by initiation proteins, and ends when the original DNA molecule has been completely duplicated and the copies topologically separated. The unit of replication usually corresponds to the genome of the cell, an organelle, or a virus. The template for replication can either be an existing DNA molecule or RNA.
